Jon Crompton is a Ruff Tuff Mountain Boy beloved by some quarters of Vol fandom primarily because he is not Ainge. Fiercely promoted and defended by internet omnipresent parents and friends, this elemnt of "fans" are quick to critcize any performance of Erik Ainge and to suggest that JC coulda done it better.

A childhood friend is Loyd van Horn, aka Son of Swami, a writer for a weekly North Carolina newspaper with a circulation of 17, 8 of whom are literate. Son of Swami is delusional in his support of Crompton and in his tirades gainst Ainge.

In Summer 2007, an Asheviile orthopaedic surgeon used the name and image of Crompton in a newspaper advertisement. Although against NCAA rules, there was no evidence to suggest Crompton was even aware of the ad. Other endorsement offers followed, however, as depicted on this page.
